How it works
The table carries the player count and the rules, so everyone plays the same game. Empty seats can be filled by the computer, which runs on the host's machine and plays for whoever has not turned up.
Connection
Tables live under /scratchchess4. The rules need read and write access on that path.
Scoring
Points
Pawn 1, Knight and Bishop 3, Rook 5, Queen 9, and 20 for delivering a checkmate. In a free-for-all the winner is whoever has the most points once only one player is left standing. In teams, the pair that mates both opponents wins outright.
Board
The four-player board is 14×14 with the corners cut away, so 160 squares. Pawns always move toward the middle and promote after eight steps. Castling and en passant are not in yet.
Three players
Three-player games use this same board with one army left out, which is how it is usually played in practice. The hexagonal board with curving files is a different geometry and is not built yet.

Extra armies
This board needs two more sets on top of the usual White and Black. Name them Red Pawn, Green Queen and so on, exactly like the others. Any set you leave out falls back to a tinted built-in piece, so a normal two-colour mod still works here.
Board art
A Board sprite drawn as a normal 8×8 grid is tiled across this larger board. Because eight is even, the light and dark squares still line up correctly at the joins, so a two-colour mod made for the standard game looks right here. The cut corners are masked out.
Sprite names
All 25 sprites, already named and drawn. Open it in Scratch, replace the costumes, share it, then paste the project ID above. Names match loosely, so red pawn and Pawn_Red both work.
